AHERA

(Schools)
  • All K-12 schools must be inspected and re-inspected every 3 years for ACM under 40 CFR Part 763
  • Post-abatement air clearance by TEM (40 CFR 763 App. A) required before reoccupancy
  • IRIS NVLAP 600211-0 + NY ELAP certification satisfies AHERA requirements in all jurisdictions

OSHA

(Occupational)
  • 29 CFR 1926.1101 (construction) · 1910.1001 (general industry): PEL 0.1 f/cc TWA, AL 0.1 f/cc
  • Initial exposure assessment required when workers may disturb ACM or PACM
  • PCM by NIOSH 7400 is the OSHA-accepted method; results must be available within 5 working days

NESHAP

(Demo / Reno)
  • EPA 40 CFR Part 61 Subpart M applies to all demolition and significant renovations
  • Owner/operator must survey for RACM before demolition; bulk PLM results drive notification requirement
  • Regulated ACM (RACM) threshold: ≥160 sq ft friable, ≥260 linear ft, or ≥35 cubic ft

IRIS NVLAP 600211-0 results accepted by EPA for NESHAP reporting.

Waste Disposal

(NJ/NY ELAP)
  • Demolition waste containing ACM must be classified as hazardous or non-hazardous before disposal
  • NY ELAP accredited methods required for waste classification submitted to NY DEC or NJ DEP
  • Non-friable material: NOB by PLM (Item 198.6) determines if friability threshold is exceeded

Choose your method: PCM cassettes (air), PLM containers (bulk), or TEM cassettes (AHERA clearance). Download the chain-of-custody form for your method and ship with a pre-paid FedEx label.

Collect & Complete COC

Air: cassette at breathing zone (PCM) or aggressive sampling (AHERA TEM). Bulk: 1–2 cm² sample per location, bagged separately. Complete COC with location, material description, and accreditation required.

Ship Overnight or Drop Off

Pre-paid shipping label included. Air cassettes and bulk samples ship at ambient — no refrigeration. AHERA clearance: ship within 24 hrs of collection for timely results.

Certified Report

PCM: f/cc fiber count with OSHA PEL/AL comparison. Bulk PLM: % asbestos by type, NESHAP threshold noted. TEM AHERA: s/mm² result with clearance pass/fail. Jurisdiction-specific reporting format.
