You can't tell by looking
Asbestos isn't visible to the naked eye. The only way to confirm whether a suspect material contains asbestos is to send a sample to an accredited lab and have it looked at under a microscope. That's the work this service does.
Our certified field professionals collect bulk and swab samples on-site, log chain-of-custody, and return them to our intake. Analysis runs by PLM, point count, or TEM depending on the material and what you're filing the result under.
Pre-1980 materials we sample most
Anything installed before regulatory restrictions in the late '70s and early '80s could contain asbestos. The most common candidates we get asked about:
Insulation
Pipe wrap, boiler insulation, duct insulation, vermiculite attic fill, sprayed-on fireproofing.
Floor & ceiling
9x9 floor tile, sheet vinyl flooring, mastic, acoustical ceiling tile, popcorn ceiling texture.
Walls & joints
Drywall joint compound, plaster, textured paint, cement-board siding (transite).
Roofing
Roofing felt, asphalt shingles, mastic, flashing compound, built-up roof systems.
Mechanical components
Furnace gaskets, boiler door gaskets, valve packing, brake pads, electrical insulation.
Surface dust (swab)
Settled-dust sampling on a window sill, beam top, or HVAC component to look for legacy contamination.
