Field collection requirements

Metals Sampling Has Strict Protocols.

Container type and preservation errors invalidate results. IRIS provides everything you need in the kit.

DO
  • Lab-supplied, pre-cleaned HDPE or polyethylene bottles (250 mL minimum)
  • First-draw sample for LCRR — no flushing; water stagnant ≥6 hours
  • Preserved with HNO&sub3; to pH <2 at collection or by lab upon receipt
  • Cool to 4°C for shipment — hold time 6 months preserved
  • COC completed before shipment — include source type and flushing status
DO NOT
  • Glass containers — metals adsorb to glass, biasing results low
  • Pre-flushed sample for first-draw LCRR compliance testing
  • Unpreserved samples — acidification is required for metals stability
  • Tap water from kitchen filter — sample from cold tap, filter bypassed
  • Delay shipment — preservation and holding time are regulatory requirements
