Regulators, attorneys, insurance adjusters, and the contractors you're submitting work for will only take data from accredited labs. AIHA Laboratory Accreditation Programs: Environmental Microbiology Laboratory Accreditation Program
IRIS Environmental Laboratories is accredited under AIHA-LAP EMLAP for environmental microbiology testing related to fungal analysis. Our accredited scope includes spore trap analysis for air samples and tape lift direct examination for bulk and surface samples, using the methods listed below.
New York State Department of Health: Environmental Laboratory Approval Program
IRIS Environmental Laboratories is approved by the New York State Department of Health ELAP under Lab ID 12738 for asbestos-related laboratory analysis within the approved NYS ELAP scope. This approval supports projects where New York State, NYC, agency, consultant, or project specifications require ELAP-approved asbestos testing. Our approved asbestos capabilities include air fiber analysis, friable and non-friable asbestos bulk material analysis, and asbestos TEM methods.
United States Environmental Protection Agency
IRIS Environmental Laboratories performs environmental laboratory analysis using EPA-published and EPA-recognized analytical methods, where applicable to the sample type and project requirement. These methods are commonly referenced in environmental investigations, regulatory programs, remediation projects, due diligence work, and consultant-driven compliance documentation.
New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection: NELAP Laboratory Certification Program
IRIS Environmental Laboratories participates in the NJ NELAP Laboratory Certification Program under Lab ID 20045, supporting environmental testing projects that require recognized laboratory methods, documented quality systems, and project-ready analytical reporting. Our NJ NELAP program scope includes asbestos analysis, drinking water microbiology, and metals testing by EPA and Standard Methods procedures commonly required for environmental, municipal, consultant, LSRP, and compliance-driven projects.
International Organization for Standardization
IRIS Environmental Laboratories is accredited by NVLAP (administered by NIST) and by AIHA-LAP, LLC — both of which accredit laboratories directly against ISO/IEC 17025:2017, the international standard for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. Our accreditations cover the full management-system and technical requirements of the standard for the methods within our defined scope. In practice, the work IRIS performs under these accreditations meets the same international benchmark recognized worldwide — not a domestic-only equivalent. Because NVLAP participates in the international mutual recognition arrangement for accredited laboratories, results from our accredited methods carry recognition across more than 130 economies, supporting clients with cross-border reporting needs.

National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program, The NELAC Institute
NELAP accreditation to the TNI standard is the framework many states recognize for environmental data. It signals our quality system and methods meet a nationally consistent benchmark.
International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation, Mutual Recognition Arrangement (via AIHA-LAP)
Our AIHA-LAP accreditation carries the ILAC-MRA mark, meaning our ISO/IEC 17025 results are recognized by accreditation bodies internationally, useful for clients with cross-border reporting needs.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC / HHS)
Participation in CDC's ELITE program (Environmental Legionella Isolation Techniques Evaluation) is the recognized proficiency standard for laboratories culturing Legionella from environmental water, cooling towers, and building water systems.
Our laboratory practices are also aligned with CDC's public-health framework for Legionella detection, water-system monitoring, and laboratory quality evaluation — supporting reliable analysis for potable water, cooling towers, and other environmental sources where Legionella risk assessment or compliance documentation is required.
National Institute of Standards and Technology
We work to NIST-traceable reference materials for instrument calibration, so measurement uncertainty meets federal benchmarks. NVLAP (above) is administered by NIST.
